WRITING REALITY: A MASOCHISTIC MASTER COURSE IN NONFICTION WRITING
The assignment: read 50+ nonfiction books, write 13 essays, and do it in 2 years. Writing Reality is a self-inflicted, DIY MFA in Nonfiction Writing, an ambitious reading project, a quest to explore my own voice as a writer and maybe pick up some new readers and a community of writers along the way.

How to Build a Fact: The Wikipedia Paradox and the Perilous Future of Knowledge
Alternative facts. “Deepfake” media. Weaponized memes. A disinformation dystopia. More than any generation, we realize that questions of accuracy inform life-and-death decisions. We face a devastating global pandemic, a long overdue reckoning over racial justice, political upheaval, and a climate crisis. The possibility of a just, democratic future on a healthy planet hangs in the balance. It’s time to reclaim what is—and is not—a matter of fact. My book project, How to Build a Fact, is a two hundred and seventy year journey uncovering the origins and the current erosion of the modern fact. It also reveals that there are always people struggling to maintain the light of knowledge and the hope for a fair, open society, even in the darkest of times.
